A520.1.2.RB - Diagnostic Surveys for Self-Awareness
The survey was a great tool for evaluating our personal skills and understanding where we as future leaders need improvement. I am comfortable with evaluating my strengths and weaknesses because I have to answer honestly and the results are blind until we score our results. Based on the results, I am strong in areas where planning and knowing what will occur or take place maximize my skills. I work well with structure and the results from the self-evaluation reaffirm this knowledge. However, I need to improve in areas where structure and creativity are required. I did discover a few faults in the test and it is not fully accurate such as the core self-evaluation scale; the instructions were confusing, I am not sure the results are accurate. However, for all other sections of the evaluation the results are accurate.
Currently, I work in a position that requires structure, deadlines, and constant self-improvement and self-evaluation on a daily basis. While working in this type of environment feeds my strengths, I thrive because it meets my personal need for structure. I did not find any surprises from the results but another reminder that I need to improve my personal skills if I desire to be a leader/ manager in the future. I am resistant and struggle with change but learning to go with the flow and have a positive attitude will allow growth in my future. The results from the survey reaffirm my need to improve my creative, less controlling, go with the flow skills.
I do put forth my best effort daily to ease up on the need for structure and work on my tolerance for personal change to improve my strengths. This is not easy for me because I thrive in a controlled environment. This may be a result of joining the military in my early 20’s and living in a controlled environment for 6 years; the constant reminder to follow rules and regulations has stayed with me for the last 11 years. I work with military veterans daily and my co-workers are all Veterans as well, therefore; the continuous structure in my work environment feeds my inner strengths. I will use the results from the evaluation to work on my skills that need improving to potentially be a successful leader in the future.
